Students at Thomas Gainsborough School, Haverhill Community Sixth Form and St Edward's Academy have today picked up their A-level results.
Westfield Primary Academy has retained its ‘Good’ rating following a recent Ofsted inspection.
The school in Chalkstone Way, Haverhill, was visited by Ofsted at the end of January and praised for creating a “vibrant learning environment that encourages pupils to engage in learning and celebrates their success”.
Established expectations for the school regarding pupils’ behaviour and learning were also noted alongside improvements to the outdoor area and nursery classroom.
David Maguire, interim headteacher at Westfield, said he was pleased the school had retained its ‘Good’ rating ahead of Toni Kittle taking over in September – and Mr Maguire returning to neighbouring Coupals Primary Academy.
Mr Maguire said: “We have introduced some changes around the expectations and ethos of the school, which has been reflected by the quality of teaching being further enhanced.
“I am glad this has been highlighted in the Ofsted report, which also mirrors the feedback we have received from parents.
“We are not resting on our laurels, but I am pleased with the ‘Good’ rating. The report also provides a really good platform for the new headteacher starting in September.”
The Ofsted inspection, which originally rated Westfield as ‘Good’ in June 2015, also praised the support of school governors and that of the Unity Schools Partnership, of which Westfield is a member.
The inspectors added: “There is a strong and effective culture of safeguarding in the school [and] the leadership team has ensured that all safeguarding arrangements are fit for purpose.”
Mrs Kittle, who was described as the “outstanding candidate in a very strong field”, will be joining Westfield in September from Pot Kiln Primary School in Sudbury.
